    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Something to note: When I unbent the tabs from the metal screen frame and pulled the unit away, there were some markings on the screen that seemed to have a view characters I can't recall what letters. but there were a couple vertical lines as well. based on the design I assume that is from removing the screen element I somehow either static discharged or there was some residual charge or an induced charge when I pulled the metal shield away from the display.

The chip under the blob is probably a semi-proprietary microcontroller that runs the radio
I thought about that too. I'll know more hopefully this weekend. spectroscopy sensor (other project) comes in soon.
Looks like HTL7G06S011P is an LDMOS power amplifier good for 11 watts up to 600 MHz:

I'm working on ways to get answers without knowing how to ask the right question.

A potentiometer is a dynamic resistor that I've found can be used to correct bias or other calibration needs. what I dont know is why there is a corresponding nub on the case itself like its a plastic molding support but it aligns with the trim pot. Are they temperamental to vibration? this seems less like a plastic support and more like a friction nub to keep it from spinning while in use.

I'm just learning about the PCB designs from other forums. I'm piecing it all together. If it seems crazy to do all of this. I'm just outputting and hoping for interaction. I write the way I do because I don't speak the way I write. I'm an autistic hillbilly. So, If you made it this far in the thread, welcome to me journaling my investigation and documenting questions. I loved instructing in the service. My favorite way to develop presentation and testing materials is to ask all the questions and embrace the dumb. Take turns to ask questions as if you deliberately miss the point trying to agitate the knowledge out of someone quickly. Like Godwin's Law.

I'm interested in, as this project has shown me, the electrical engineering and now I think next I'm going to look for the cutting edge tech/theories/papers to skim for anything novel and look for the problem it was solving. the PCB has buried lanes, vias (I just learned these things).

Are there any unique and niche circuitry form factors specifically made by, for, because of radio operators and radios that ended up in other industries?

Nasa has a thing where their work has led to things we use in medicine, for example. The fuel pump for the shuttle, that technology was developed by NASA and it led to, among other things, pediatric artificial heart technology.

My posts will look dumb and spastic because that's just how I can be without having a starting point or a guide (or topic) for the conversation, etc. So far I'm learning little by little with no real specific learning objective. I like learning as many seemingly disconnected tidbits and facts that I can spend time thinking about because it's fun to try to find the connections in my head, even if it's googleable or otherwise commonly known. Additionally, I'd argue that we are so hell bent on being accurate out of the gate, that we fail to embrace the intellectual productive potential of allowing moderate errors and, instead, focusing on improving error detection and correction. Learning isnt finding information. It's finding your own dumb and correcting it, but people fear witnesses to this solipsistic nudity. I don't. I give negative ****s for looking dumb and being brutish. This effort to learn, and my rationale now better articulated, is a vocational rehabilitation and hobby interest.
