• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I downloaded CHIRP, had a friend of mine take remote control of my Dell 2320 computer and he put in (14) police/fire frequencies with ctcss/dcs in receive mode only. He then got tied up on a call. How do I get this transceiver to scan the frequencies that I put in? (I know the menu button controls mostly everything on this Chinese transceiver. Am I missing something? I even looked online too. It will do a search within a range but not scan what I put in. When it downloaded the frequencies, both green lights lighted up on the radio too and this guy that did it for me is a technician too.
Have a good Labor Day everyone.

The GT-5TP should have the same menu structure and functions as the UV-82 series.
Detailed information can be found at UV82 - Miklor
You start scanning by pressing and holding the *SCAN key for more than 1 second.

If you didn't see the key (on the keypad on the front of the radio) labled SCAN and didn't read the last line in post #2 then I give up.

To be fair, you said it "should have the same menu structure and functions as the UV-82 series" in post #2. Scanning through the UV-82 series and UV-82HP manuals, I don't see any mention of a scan button, but given they are PDFs of an image, it makes searching impossible so I might have missed it. It does mention it on the website you linked to though.

I agree with @Bob1955 that these manuals leave something to be desired, but I found a video that mentions simply holding the * key to begin scanning. I'm guessing that's what they mean on the website by *SCAN, but it's not clear at all with that nomenclature.

belvdr, when you do that, all it does is take the current frequency and count up on it. The CHIRP program did NOT enter ANY frequencies into memory. I'll just continue to use this as a single/dual watch VHF/UHF receiver until list it for sale. I'm no longer interested in this devise now. Radioditty sent me the programming cable on Friday.
Hope you're having a nice holiday weekend.

Sorry it's not working. I'm getting what I can from the manuals but it's a test of patience. Unfortunately, I don't own one of these to provide useful input.

It seems like you have to put it into channel mode first before holding that button, otherwise it scans in VFO mode. From another video, it says to turn it off, hold down menu, then power it on again to switch between modes. Hope that helps.

Hope you have a great weekend too.

You're on the right track. In most cases, the HT needs to be in memory mode in order to scan the saved memories. When in the VFO mode, the radio would scan up (increasing the frequency by the selected step setting) or down (decreasing by the selected step setting).

belvdr, I don't know how to THANK YOU so much for your message to me yesterday at 7:41pm on 9/1/19. I did exactly when you said in your message and all channels are stored in memory with the CTCSS/DCS that was programed in with CHIRP software. Now, how do I get it to scan the above channels in memory and ONLY when you have time to answer this question?

After you get it into channel mode, I believe holding the * button will now scan the channels.
