Base Antennae Question

Any recommendations for a Base Antennae (one brand over another)? Looking to install in attic or on patio for a scanner.

Two that work realy well are the "Scantenna" or the Radio Shack 20-176.
Both work well to 400MHz then the scantenna works a little better higher up that.
If going the attic route becareful with the scantenna it is almost 5' tall.
