hello there,
Brand new to this forum, but have had a scanner for many years. I have a BC 350A and am thinking of upgrading....can anyone advise in brief the differences between the 996T and the 996XT?
Thank you

Hardware wise, a multi-color backlighted display.

T model has 6000 channel memory
XT model has 25000 channel memory 3x times the memory
Rumor is XT firmware area memory is larger too.

What XT has T does not see following

Support for P25 Conventional channels that include NAC and TGID user differentiation (P25 One-Frequency Trunk)
EDACS ESK support
Control Channel Data Output – allows the analysis of control channel data without the need to perform invasive modifications to the scanner Now supported in UniTrunker version 1.0.0.10 or newer.
Close Call Temporary Store (last 10 hits)
Fire Tone Out Search - built-in frequency counter displays the received tones.

Multi-color display backlight
Multi-Site support
NAC decoding
Ability to flag a channel as Digital, Analog, or All
Temporary Lockout
System / Channel Number Tagging - provides rapid access to a specific system or channel.
Individual channel volume offset
Intermediate Frequency Exchange - changes the IF used for a selected frequency to help avoid image and other mixer-product interference on a frequency.
Key Safe Mode - lets you hand the scanner to a novice user and prevent programming from being modified.
Private Systems - lets you flag a system so that it cannot be read out of the scanner or modified.
Priority ID Scan on trunked systems
Preemptive Priority on Motorola analog systems
Quick-Access Search Keys
Negative Channel dropout delay (forced resume)

Can anyone tell me if the XT would possibly do any better at pulling in weaker P25 control channels? I live in a rather weak area and am hoping that perhaps the XT might be a bit more sensitive or get better 800MHZ reception overall??

Thanks for any input.

Sorta of "off topic" but.... The actual scanner used is a far distant second to a having a great antenna system for receiving marginal signals. That is where you should focus your efforts for pulling in weaker signals.

I agree with the above. I have always said the breakdown is like this:
60% Antenna
30% Radio
10% Luck
Happy Monitoring!

Just to correct not everything in the wiki is correct...

the T still does
EDACS ESK support (with latest firmware upgrade)
Multi-Site support
Multi-color display backlight - only 2 colours vs the XT 7 (the XT adds alerts)
Temporary Lockout

Anybody think of anything else that is wrong in the wiki (as in bold when it shouldnt be)?

But yes overall the XT is a much nicer scanner... more memory, more talkgroups per system 500
