Noticed what sounded like unusual "echo' in BCounty fire dispatch earlier today. Have they moved to a new dispatch center?

Also seemed like an unusual amount of activity on TGID3600 (B5/TAC58) - but I'll admit there was an active incident going on up in Carroll County around the same time.

I don't really listen to BCounty all that much--- just curious.

I listen pretty much to/from work as I work in the Woodlawn area. They do indeed have a 'spare' comm center, but I suspect it's more related to having the same radios on the same talkgroup rebroadcasting. We get a similar effect if someone is talking on 2m and has another radio tuned to the same frequency. 73 Mike

They've been in and out of the back-up center ("Gilroy") this weekend. They use random talk groups to coordinate the switchover when they move to/from the back-up, getting CAD and phones switched over. This is probably what you heard.

Also, when they are in the back-up center, dispatchers are using mobile control stations and portables, NOT direct-wire consoles, so this could account for everything mentioned here.

Come on guys we go thru this every time Baltimore County is in their back up center. They sound like crap as OCGuard said. They are operating on mobile control stations. Also there are numerous things patched into the radio system such as Fire Mutual Aid and Police Baltimore Metro, so they can have connectivity to the outside world while in their back up center.

Also the money that Baltimore County is spending on their new radio system, if it sounded like this after the new system went in, I would be requesting a refund.

Other fourms on this subject.

As I said, I don't listen to BCounty all that much ... my curiosity centered around them going to digital sometime in the future -- and I thought I heard they were getting a new Dispatch center soon too -- was putting 2 and 2 together and apparently came up with the wrong answer.

<soapbox>Still, I'd like to think that we can ask questions here without being made to feel like I should know already everything about everything and/or spend alot of time searching for something that may not exist... </soapbox>

X2, the "I know more than you" and "I know but can't tell you" attitude that developed here over the years is why I don't participate much any more.

The best resource here is Mike.
