I have a ws1040 that constantly shows the batteries need charging. The icon constantly flashes. I have the type set correctly NiMh. took batteries out and they were hot. They also had a full charge. I'm thinking the charge circuit is bad. I even reset the scanner to factory default. No good. But if its set to alkaline, all's fine. Take batteries out and disable charger it works. But when you turn it off, have to turn charger off again.

WS1040 doesn't have a switch for battery type. Yellow battery holder for rechargeables and black holder for alkaline.

Never ever charge batteries in the scanner, as is just a timed charger and will either cook tne batteries by overcharging or under charge them. The scanner will be ruined if something causes the batteries to melt down.

Going forward get a good external battery charger and cnarge in it. The batteries will last much longer with proper charging.

Under global settings on scanner, you have 3 choices for type of battery. nickel metal hydride, nicad, or alkaline. Its accessible on scanner not thru software. But I do have an external charger. Why I like my bcd325p2. It will tell you batteries charged, not a timer.

The settings in the menu are only for setting the low battery profile for the type of batteries you are using. If you are getting the low battery alert, the batteries may not be charging or you have a bad cell. Did you try a new set of batteries? You use the yellow battery case for rechargeable batteries. You use the black battery case for alkaline or other types of non-rechargeable batteries. The black battery case will not attempt to charge any type of battery. How do you know the batteries have a full charge? If you are using NIMH batteries, set the global menu in the scanner to that. Make sure that the AC adapter is unplugged from the AC outlet before you plug or unplug the cable into the scanner. There is a warning in the manual about that. It is possible to damage the charging circuit in the scanner. Read my previous post about the BCD325P charging.
