Trying to scan on the Queen Of Surrey.

Appears to be DMR TDMA. Scanning both time slots and colour codes getting a transmission every once in a while but most of them are not heard. Sometimes there appears to be a transmission but not audio is received. Any thoughts or ideas?

If you are onboard you will hear tg 74 + All Call tg 255. It has a license for multiple repeater pairs. Generally speaking, most ships are Cap+ so look at 453.1125 + 467.575 or 463.7625 for the other pairs
If you are attempting from a distance, it's low power, making it harder to hear.

Like @BC_Scan said, onboard repeaters are all in Cap+ trunking. As such, you will get some idle transmissions with no voice. If you are able to, your best bet would be to try monitoring using DSD+, SDRtrunk or similar so you can see what is transmitting. But from my previous testing on BCF, you should be hearing transmissions on TG 74 if you have the system programmed properly.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what Cap+ is or if I will even be able to hear it with my setup.

I've got a DMR tranciever that can scan both timeslots and all colour codes. I did not have the frequencies that you listed so I will add those to my scan list.

I imagine that DSD+ or SDR Trunk would require using a computer?

I will try again next time I am onboard.

Don't think that will help if they're using RAS.
Some transceivers with or without modified firmware do allow for RAS RX (One example would be: OpenGD77 firmware allows for RAS/CRC RX).

I find that majority of the ferries are very hard to rx unless if you are right next to them.
