They moved the function button to the front! That alone would make this totally worth it for me!

I hope they keep this case design for their next digital scanner!

Just posted my full review, including a 13 minute video review of the BC125AT. I uploaded the 1080p Full HD version for you to enjoy!

Please excuse me if I stumble in my video review, it was my first and I am learning as I go here :)

Nice review. Thanks for your efforts.

The BC125AT is finally shown on the Uniden Web site, but I still can register the scanner at my.uniden.com - the BC125AT is still not shown in the pull-down list of scanner models, and until it is, one can not register it.

Review Lockouts

Noticed that the Review Lockouts menu function does not function with normal bank scan memories. I was a bit puzzled at first since I had temporary and permanent bank memories locked out and noticed that the manual only mentions that you can use Review Lockouts with search / CC lockouts etc. Of course I could just scroll through them to see the lockout status if I wished.

Just something I'd throw out for those in a rush not to peruse the manual (like myself), and might think that it is not working. It IS, but it does not pertain to bank scan memories. Not a real problem - it pays to read the manual. :)

Ok, i need someone to point out the obvious that i am missing...... i have the software loaded and working, but trying to get the USB driver to work isnt going well, i have loaded the zip file, extract all files, that leaves me with two file, a XP and Win7 file, i plug in the scanner and nothing is happening? have tried all sorts of combos, plugging in the scannner doesnt trigger anything to start or run? can i try a different usb cord? any ideas?
so far i love this scanner, bought it at the Martinsville Va nascar race this past weekend and really enjoy the functions..

You need to look for the *.inf file (either XP or Win7) from the zip file.

In Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), right click on the *.inf file; one of the options should be "Install", select that. This should install the USB driver. After the install, open the "Device Manager" from the Control Panel. Under "Ports (COM&LPT)", you should then see BC125AT(COM**) listed. If you do, your software should be able to find the scanner via the USB cable. (Note: these instructions apply to Windows7, if your in XP (or Vista), there might be a slight difference, but the basic procedure should be the same).

Hope this works,

Ted

I'm still having a problem with the BC125AT essentially going deaf after some indeterminate period of time.

I leave the scanner on most of the time as I'm working (I work from home). I'm still finding the BC125AT where it appears to be scanning through all the banks but will not stop on any activity for a long period of time (I've watched it for several minutes). If I power the scanner off then back on, it resumes scanning and almost immediately starts stopping on activity.

The BC125AT is usually connected to an external antenna and it brings in a lot of activity, especially in the Air Bands (VHF & UHF). There is almost always some activity that the scanner should hit a some point every few seconds, let alone over several minutes.

I still think its a great little scanner for what it does (and costs); I've considered sending it in to be repaired, but what do I say is wrong with it? Also, I still have not been able to register the BC125AT at My Uniden, as the BC125AT is still not shown in the "Model Number" list required during the registration process.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

I haven't noticed this on mine.

At first I thought it might have been desense, but I wonder if the external antenna connector you are using has splayed the two-prong fingers out a bit inside the bnc connector leading to an intermittent connection. Perhaps when you power-cycle the 125, you are jiggling the case enough to reestablish a weak connection?

To cut out the variables, I'd check the internal bnc for splayed fingers, and also run this test with just the supplied duck to see if it occurs with that. I guess it is possible you just have a bad/cold solder joint internally, but I'd start by not using the external antenna first for awhile to try and hunt this down before sending it in.

the reason why the scanner does that is because it goes into battery save mode if it scanning and not picking up anything.check the manual.

Unless I've missed something in the manual the only reference I found on Battery Save mode is when your in HOLD; (manual reference below)

"Battery Save - works when there is no transmission for 1 minute in Scan Hold mode and any Search Hold mode (without Priority Scan). This feature turns off RF power for 1 second and turns on it for 300ms to extend the battery life."

Just a little more info on my "Deaf" BC125AT:

Don't think it has anything to do with the BNC antenna connection. When I found it this afternoon in what I'll call "deaf" mode (i.e., appearing to be scanning through all the banks over a long period and never stopping on any channels - even though I expect at least a few hits given typical experience) , I disconnected and reconnected the antenna cable with no effect.

I also tried something different (rather than just a power cycle). I typically scan with Close Call in DND mode, so I turned the the Close Call to Off. As soon as I did this the scanner started getting hits. Maybe there is an unanticipated interaction somewhere in the firmware programming - just a guess. (Note: I also typically run with Priority in DND mode, I have not changed that yet.)

I also believe the time period before my BC125AT appears to goes "deaf" is on the order of 1-2 hours.

This info is not meant to disparage the BC125AT - I still think its a great little scanner, especially for its costs. The "issue" is more of an annoyance then a major flaw.

Maybe I'm just imagining this behavior, but I don't think so. Haven't had the time or patience to set up a controlled experiment (every one knows the more you watch the pot, the longer it takes for the water to boil!). Just wanted to share my experience.

Thanks for putting up with my babbling.

Good info - I'm going to try and duplicate that since I don't normally run with CC DND on.

I'm starting out fresh, with a total reset of the scanner (press 2,9,HOLD, and then power on) wiping out everything. Interesting to see that the default is for CC DND to be on. I'll keep an eye on it today and see what happens...

I too have seen the "deaf" scanner. I am running Close Call DND. Next time it happens, I'll turn that off and see if it helps.

Ok, I was able to reproduce the issue here after a few tests. Obviously it looks like UPMan is on the case!

The scanner does indeed go deaf after an hour when CC DND is activated AND Scan Hit logging is activated. An earlier test with only CC DND activated, but hit logging off had no issues after two hours.
