Have the BC125AT scanner and am trying to install Uniden's software. Software installs easily but when I download Drivers there only seems to be a text file downloaded and thus I need the driver to be able to connect to the scanner. How do you get the driver installed?

From the page you downloaded the drivers from:

To install the drivers, unzip the file. Then, plug your BC125AT into your PC. When prompted, point the installer to the files you unzipped.

i did a comparison today with my PSR500,using a Watson 881 antenna, and the BC125 performed better on airband, was a lot clearer than the PSR500.didnt receive any mil-air signals today so i cant comment on that.

First Impressions

Received my BC125AT yesterday. Loaded it with frequencies using beta version of Butel's ARC125. Worked very good.

Sensitivity seems to be very good in VHF Air, haven't heard much in UHF MILAIR yet. The BC125AT really likes my external antenna. There are several ground to air transmitters I usually don't hear at my location from my other radios that it brings in solid.

Close-Call works as good as my 996XT at home (my local police and fire VHF dispatch transmitter tower is pretty close and most of the time triggers close-call; kind of a nice "priority" mode).

I like the Priority-DND mode, wish that was available in other Uniden scanners (maybe it will be included in the upcoming firmware upgrades??!!!). Would be useful if more than one channel per bank could be set as Priority.

Am disappointed there appears to be no way to change the mode (i.e., AM or NFM) in custom searches (or service searches). Much of the interesting VHF-Milair occurs between 137-142 in AM mode, but the band-plan defaults to NFM. Changing search step size would also be nice.

Haven't used it mobile yet, but I expect it to perform well.

i believe that gre's are noted for their substandard airband performance. did you use the same antenna on both ?. my bc125at seem's to be o.k. on civil air. i did get 1 hit on milair. i have not really thoroughly tested it though. it seem's to be a pretty good receiver for the small amount of buck's. close call work's pretty well, when out in town. with that being said, i don't think most advanced listeners would prefer this radio as their primary radio. as a backup, or adjunct radio, or for the novice, it's pretty decent.

For comparison purposes - what are those other radios?

The BC125AT beats my GRE-800, but the good old BC780XLT is probably is a little better than the BC125AT (at least it shows more bars). I have others but haven't done any direct comparison.

The download is not a txt file. It is a "zip" file and has two "inf" files inside.

Still enjoying my BC125AT. I've used it fixed at home connected to an external antenna, mobile, and hand held. As with any scanner, the better the antenna, the better the reception. It does a great job pulling in Aircraft and MILAIR. I haven't done any controlled test, but my feeling is that it is a little more sensitive in those bands than the HomePatrol-1 or the GRE800 on the same antenna.

Not sure when Uniden is going to add the BC125AT to the list of scanners in the registration page of My Uniden - until they do, it is not possible to register the scanner.

Have noticed one anomaly that has occurred a few times. I often just have the scanner on in the background while I'm working on something else. There have been a few times it has occurred to me that I haven't heard anything for a while; I've looked at the scanner and it appears to be scanning normally, but it is not stopping on any channels - even though there should be some activity. When I turn the power off then back on, the BC125AT starts the scan, and immediately I start hearing activity. I haven't been able to isolate any conditions that might be causing this, but it clearly has happened a few times. Has anyone else experienced the same behavior?

Selecting Modulation in Quick Search mode?

I live in Europe, and in 90% of the cases we use FM on the CB band (27mhz) but the BC125AT is locked to AM. Between 30 and 54 MHz it is locked to NFM, i would like to be able to use AM mode in some cases. Is there a way to select a specific modulation?

a tentative thumbs up .........

all the mode, steps are written in. no user defined parameters. yes, the radio is pretty darn well behaved hooked to an external antenna. i've noticed hardly any interference,or birdies. one slightly annoying feature on mine, around 154.280-154.295, it has a "hashing" tick, tick, tick noise while the fq. is active, i tuned 154.295 mhz as 154.300 mhz. it took care of the problem for the most part.

the radio is definetly louder than i thought it would be. even with the lower speaker facing the inside of the cup holder in my car.

the batteries seem to die out pretty quickly. have not done any scientific measurments. probably because it's 2 batt's, not 3 or 4.

i was a little disappointed that the key's are not backlit.

the 10 bank's of 50 ch's each, are pretty well suited to me.

the stock antenna was pretty decent. i replaced it with a fatter antenna off an old bc200.

the display is nice and big. pretty big for a hh of this size.

again, the case is a bit cheap. i'm afraid to give it a hard look.

for $135.00 shipped, it does not seem to be too bad a radio. again, a nice backup or adjunct radio. it serves my need's. i enjoy taking it in the car. i can listen to some dedicated channel's, without tying up my primary radio.

note: i was happy to see uniden make good on the incorrect step size, with the promise of a firmware update.

It's possible to change to modulation when storing a frequency, so it should be possible to change this in the firmware for the quich search mode. If i am lucky they will :)
