I picked up an old scanner at a garage sale a BC235
The audio is very poor to the point You can not hear
the radio in your car with the windows down
Does anyone know if this is a problem with this
model or is it just this radio I bought.
Also it eats up batteries very fast within an hour or so
I did not pay to much so I am not real concerned
Any help
Thanks

The BC235 audio doesn't seem to be very loud to begin
with (normal). That the battery lasts only a short time
indicates it has a bad cell. After charging, the other
three cells will allow it to operate for a short time.
This may make the audio worse. Check out the battery
voltage when it cuts out. A normal pack would be around
4v or a bit higher.

The maximum audio output on the BC235xlt is 180 mW. The BCD396T is listed at 400 mW. A Motorola portable has 500 mW audio output. Still, the BC235 should be loud enough to hear.

You can order replacement battery packs online.

Thanks for the helpfull info
I tried using the power adapter with the radio
and the audio is no better
I tried using an external speaker and it is even worse
Is the volume limited with the headphone jack?
Any thoughts
Thanks

Think I read something about a resistor or capacitor on the earphone jack that limits the volume so-as to protect users from destroying their hearing. If you can get to the innards in that case you can clip the resistor or cap out of the circuit.
