• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got a BC235 in addition to my BC245. With the latter, I have no problems programming as I can do it from the computer, but I have a problem with programming the talkgroups into the BC235.

In Toronto, our system is Type II, but I can't punch in any of the talkgroups in decimal form? I assume this has something to do with the Fleet Map programming, but I'm completely confused. Talkgroup 4704 turns into 001-2 ....

any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure you have it set to type II?

Do not concern yourself with Fleet Map programming.
As Milf said, double check that you have type II entered,if not, toggle through the Trunking choices until you seeE2-800 press E and the Moto II system will be all set.
Do a search in that bank and see if 4704 appears now.

The BC235 choice is E2, not E2-800 because it is only capable
of 800MHz trunking.

Thanks for the correction Dave H,

the BC 235 was before my time. I'll try doing a little more research
before jumping in with my "helpful" hints.

Thanks for all the tips, guys... I'm good to go!

.. it just takes a bit longer to punch in the digits on the keypad than with a serial cable and the BC245int (which, incidentally, now gives me a BSOD on my WinXP laptop after 5 minutes, so I gotta quit the program and restart at 4:30 intervals.)

But now I got two semi-identical units, except I found out the BC235 can only hold 50 IDs for each trunk so I had to eliminate some IDs from my 245.

Actually, one more question now, since the operation of the 235 seems different than the 245. How do I quickly switch trunking banks? On the 245 while trunking, I can hit the DATA button to toggle between trunking/banks... but now, it seems I gotta hit TRUNK, then hold down TRUNK for two seconds until it beeps in order to scan a new trunking bank. Is that right?

While scanning a bank in trunking mode, HIT TRNK, this puts you in conventional mode. HIT TRNK , display will blink. Hit Bank #. You are now trunking that bank.
