Lets see if I can plainly explain my question.

When the scanner picks up a transmission it firsts shows the "System Name" and then switches to the "Group Name" and then back again. Is there a way to have it only show the "Group Name"?

The reason I ask is, I use this scanner in the car mostly, and sometimes by the time I get a chance to safely look at the screen to see who's transmitting it has swiched back to the "System Name".

Example of my set-up

System Name: South Worcester County
Group Name: Douglas
Group Name: Webster
Group Name: Uxbridge

System Name: North Worcester County
Group Name: West Boylstone
Group Name: Holden
Group Name: Clinton

TIA,

WT

I have had that problem as well. The only near solution I have had (which meant re-wording my tags) was a format that includes the group name in the TGID tag as well. I will use your names in my example:

System: South Worcester County
Group: Douglas
ID: Doug FD Ops
ID: Doug PD Ops
Group: Webster
ID: Web FD Ops
ID: Web PD Ops

etc.
Hope this helps, I have been looking for a good solution to this issue as well. At home I keep a logger going so I can look back, but not every easily done in the car. =) Sometimes I get lucky and have the wife with me and she looks. LOL

You can put the same name on the system and the group tag. You will be able to see less details.

Thanks for the help, but re-naming wll not solve the problem. See the image below and notice the first alpha line "Ft Worth Police", that is where in my example it would be System Name "South Worcester County" it would switch back and forth with Groups "Douglas" or "Webster". The second line.........Dud

SORRY .......What you were trying to explain to me just hit me.....lol
I see what your saying now, sometime I just need a kick in the, well you know what I mean....

Thanks,

WT

Maybe not as desirable to you. But since the 246 will do 200 systems, instead of one system, three groups, make it into three systems, using the same name for the system & a single group.
Alternately, would a "1-", "2-", etc, at the start of the channel/talk group line make it any easier to denote which group it was with a quick glance, since that shows on the second line of the display?

Thank you. I like that idea and had not thought about that. Might make it alot easier on my end.

Had to do what Hiegtx recommended on my own scanners.
Our county has a rather chatty FD, they have something like 100+ TGs which won't fit into one bank.
Gave up and put the most heavily trafficed (and those of interest) in Bank 1, other FDs in Bank 2 and the Cops in Bank 3. Takes a bit longer to slog thru all of that, but, it is what it is.
Funny thing is, folks from that county used to accuse those in the county I reside in now of "talking out a fire." Sure sounds the other way around to me.

The 246 has up to 200 TGs per system.

The top line shows your System Name AND Group Name. The second line shows the ID or the Name you assign that ID. Hope this helps.
