I recently got my bc350c back from my buddy and put it in the truck. Ive been messing with it and a small mag mount antenna while I search for a fender NMO mount. I’ve noticed that while it picks up CB, GMRS and local fire well, it won’t pick up weather. I thought maybe it was an issue with the NOAA sites since the hurricane, but I just tested and both my baofeng and my whistler handheld scanner will pick up weather in the basement, with no external antenna. Why can’t the uniden pick it up in the front yard with an antenna on top of the truck? Is it common for just the weather board to quit?

Weather scan won't work
• Adjust the Squelch Control.
• Check the Antenna Connection.
• Review each channel's frequency to see if it is still stored in memory and is correct.
and that is from the uniden manual,
I have checked and double checked all the above. I have also manually scrolled through the weather band. All the frequencies are there but it’s like there’s no signal. I don’t think it’s an antenna issue, because I can switch over to Cb or GMRS and pick those up perfectly fine.

Squelch…
Do you have a local freq that’s 159.??? Or so! Or anything else in the high 150???s! If something on 150 works than it’s not a total failure of the VHF section of the receiver!
Did it work before in the truck? Vehicle electronics spout out a lot of crap n it could be blocking VHF reception! Again not likely but doesn’t hurt to check…

I was able to pick up EMS traffic on 159.960. I tried the antenna from my handheld which is the only other BNC antenna I have, and I had the same results. Picks up VHF, cb and GMRS but no weather. The antenna connector itself looks good, and twisting/jiggling the connection has no effect.

It did work in my buddy’s truck, when I tried it a year or so ago. I was riding with him somewhere and was messing with it. But we took it out of his truck and stuck it mine the same day. All my testing has been with the truck off. When it was in his truck, it was in use any time he was in the truck, as he is a volunteer firefighter. The only reason he took it out was because he bought a full fledged radio to put in its place.

Have you tried entering the NWS freq direct, not via the pre-programmed group! I had a 350n years ago.If I remember put it in the private bank…
Do you get noise if you open up the squelch?

I tried that just now, no change. Yes if I open the squelch I get noise, static noise. I tried all the weather frequencies, same deal on all of them. I’m stumped.
