BC396T antenna reception problems!

I have recently purchased the BC396T and love it, but my reception in my house is terrible. I was wondering what kind of either outside or inside antenna might help.

Im new to the world of scanning so you'll have to bear with me. its the stock antenna that came with the unit. the frequencies im scanning are in the 800mhz and the new project - 25.

Antennas

I have a 396 also. I bought one of the 800 Mhz antennas sold by Radio Shack. It is a huge improvement over the one that comes with the BCD 396T.

what about the reception from inside the house. the outside is aluminium siding and affects cell phone reception as well as radio. would an out door antenna be a good idea and if so what kind would be suitable for this.

Stand outside with the scanner. See how much difference there is.

Aluminum siding usually kills a lot of signal.

I can testify to that, as my house has aluminum siding. However, you may find that moving a few feet in one direction or another inside the room will make a noticeable difference. Trying the R/S 800 antenna on it outside will give you a partial preview of what an external antenna would do for you.
