Pretty expensive....

The point of the posts I've made recently is -- is the cards are going to go bad/get corrupted (and they will), it's probably a better idea to buy several at $5-10 and have spares on hand than to spend $30-40 on a single card that will eventually fail (and they will).

If you don't have a spare card handy when you current one fails, you will be very unhappy (at least, until you get a new one).

I've never paid more than $20 for any SD card - SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston, etc.

The only one that has ever failed (so far) in my 536 is the Samsung 32Gb card (and after a short period of time).

And, as it turns out, you really don't need 32Gb of space anyway unless you are recording everything like I do and almost never pull/dump the recordings. I go weeks and I think the most recordings I've seen totaled about 2 Gb.

If they didn't fail (but they do), I'd stick with larger cards when I can get a good price but I've learned I really don't need a large card (or expensive ones).

I've had three HP1s, a 436 bought a few weeks after it was released, and a 536 bought this past January, and each one of them has had a SanDisk 32GB class 10 (red and grey) card installed almost immediately after receipt of the radio, and not to this day have I experienced corruption. I'm using the record feature on a constant basis, too, so the cards are getting pretty serious workouts. I'm curious if there's a common issue or action between those who have experienced card corruption. For example, I have almost never physically removed the card from any of my radios. I do all the data transfer through the USB port. Another theory is power interruption - I've never shut off the 536 without letting it write to the card. The 436 on the other hand has run out of battery many times, including a few times where the drain was sharp enough that it didn't have time to finish gracefully (no writing to card). Maybe I've been lucky in that those instances haven't proven fatal. Or maybe it has something to do with the internal battery issues? Because I haven't had those problems with either radio.

It's true you don't need 32GB, so if you find yourself needing to replace cards regularly, a smaller capacity card does indeed cost less. But I'd hesitate to claim that all cards always fail - I'd try to find a commonality between those of you who have experienced failures.

I've recorded everything - all of the time - since getting my first PSR800.

I find transfer over the cable to be far too slow to transfer recordings so I remove the SD card and copy the recordings 99+ percent of the time.

I have had many cards fail over the years and it could be partly related to Windows not properly releasing the card (although I do regularly perform a clean "safe" release of the cards before removal from the PC).

I've only had one SD card fail on the combination of the 436 and 536 in more than one year - but the details don't point to removal of the card as the problem....

The sole card that failed was a 32Gb Samsung EVO card. I put the programming on it via the PC (directly) and then put the card in the 536. It then was used and was recording for many weeks - or so I thought. When I pulled and transferred the SD card to the PC to copy off the recordings, I realized that my recording had stopped weeks prior and I had no indication that there was a power failure or other cause.

After putting the card back into the 536 and starting recording again, I noticed over shorter and shorted periods of time that the RECording kept turning itself off... but I didn't understand why.

It was only during the February wifi firmware update installation (where I had the radio directly in front of me) that I was surprised to witness the radio suddenly reboot itself for no known reason. Ultimately, this continued to occur until I replaced the SD card. I've seen no unexplained reboots since that time.

I suppose it could just be a bad card. I have no other explanation and had had no other SD failures with the x36 radios (yet - but I'm sure it's just a matter of time given that the radio constantly writes to the card while in use. These cards do not have an unlimited number of writes...

EDIT: I failed to mentioned that I've been using the same model 32Gb Samsung SD card in my 436 for months now under the same/similar conditions (all my radios are on 24/7). It was a separate order from a different vendor so I'd say a completely different batch... no problems with that one so far.
