BC785D Dimming question

Anybody know if there is a [easy] way to adjust the default dimming
levels. I would like to have the "MEDIUM"setting be even dimmer than the factory default.
Anyway to hack into the values, or even insert a variable pot to adjust the brightness level?

I have decided to try a piece of transparent red colored plastic
in front of the LCD display. I'll let you know how good of a job it does.
