BC785D Weather Alert Feature

I have the weather alert turned on. Whenever a warning, watch or other message is delivered the weather alert does not turn on. I have all the correct FIPS codes in for my county (Wayne County in ohio) Is it able to be on when i am scanning or do i have to be on the weather channel in order for it to alert?? Thanks

An almost useless feature as it works now, you can't listen to the scanner and have that weather alerting feature on at the same time. So its a $500 weather radio OR a scanner, take your pick.
