• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I don't know if this really happen during the downloading of the bci96d firmware. But now since i did the download the sensitivity in the 800mhz band and vhf is really poor. Before i did the download the scanner performed flawlessly. I did a test, in which you turn off the scanner, hold 2, 9, trunk, and turn it on, it displays testing 1 mot, 2 edacs wide, 3 edacs narrow, 4 ltr, after press 1 for motorola it displays ct, followed by a flashing motorola bad condition. Have anyone else seen this. If you do try this, make sure you have a backup file. Because this will erase some of you stored data.

That could be a factory test like the Pro-96 has, where you might need to inject a test tone or data to get it to perform correctly in that test mode. I will venture to say that the "Ct" might stand for connect tone or something and when you hit Hold it switches to "Vc" which guessing again might mean voice channel, who knows... interesting, very interesting.
I did noticed the VHF reception sucks when compared to the Pro-96 and I don't know if it's that way before or after the upgrade.

By the way, thanks to your trick to setup the VHF 9600 system on the BC296D in a search range and then turning on Trunk Search, I've been tracking our system fairly good, in a "control channel only" way and without putting in any Base/Offset settings.... PLAN 2 seems to work the best. Interesting, very interesting.... :)

Sometimes, it stops working all of the sudden and I either have to switch around menus and hit scan to get it to track properly again or load the saved file I got when I first got it working. Finding out what settings the BC296 uses by default might be the key to set up the Pro-96 also.... who knows.

Kikito, The ALMR system here in anchorage remains too be a mysterious one for now, or one of a kind. Your extemely lucky in fairbank with the constant flow of ALMR communications too work with. The pro-96 works well with the base freq, offset, steps info you provided to me. (THANKS) But on several occassions one of the 2 voice channels 155.565 won't decode properly. But i'm thankful for now :? it's definately a start. Using the bc795 in search trunk mode. Now i'm seeing, what was once an easy and successful task, now turned impossible or ugly. The darn thing won't trunktrack in trunk search mode anymore. I tried using plan 1, 2, 3, 4, with only plan 2 or 3 working for a short period of the time. That's why i downloaded the bci96d firmware into the bc796. I was hoping for something too work properly. But i guess i was way off. Now i'm face with the darn bc796 acting strangely, since the bci96d firmware download  . Especially with the reception in the 800mhz and vhf band it's terrible. Is the someway too undo the download, like the pro-96? Also if it's not a problem, can you e-mail me the base freq, offset, step, agian. I've misplace some of the info.

That sounds like that could be it.

Thanks,
Scanland..
