• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You would need to let us know what type or types of trunked systems you are trying to program. There are different ways to program different systems. If you had the name of the system, that would also be a big help. We may be able to go to the database here and find the information pertaining to the system.

Are you trying to program everything through the front panel or are you using the software to program it. The software is the easier way to go if you are entering a number of talk groups and alpha tags.

Even through the software that Uniden packages is a bit weak, it is still easier than trying to program through the front.

I'm not sure which system you are trying to program, but both the Akron systems are Motorola Smartnet systems and should work just fine on your 796D.

Be sure to set the bank as a trunked bank or it will not follow trunked conversations.

Can you hear any of the control channels? Even if you enter each of the freq.'s and hit scan in conventional mode, it will eventually stop when it hears the data on the control channel. If you can do that much, at least you know you can hear the system.

I'm only framiliar with the software that Uniden packages with the scanners so I can't offer too much help with the application you are using.

What you are missing is that that is not a trunking system.

By the looks of it, you are trying to monitor the Mississauga Site(9)
for the Ontario Bell Fleetnet System.
Have you followed the Sticky instructions on the top of the Canadian
Forum ?

Here, look at this link and follow the programming guide our moderator
has prepared.

You should be good to go now.

Summit county, Ohio trunk system

Forget about trunking for a moment. Do you hear anything , like
voice or data when you enter the freq's ?
If you hear the control channel you should be all set to try Trunk programming.

Why not put them in the old way by hand, but make sure you are entering in Motorola trunking mode.

It's only seven frequencies and shouldn't take long to set up.
