Looking into getting this scanner for testing and non important stuff. I cannot find my answer on the manual. Does it support narrow band tuning steps? 6.25, 7.5 kHz?

Really doubt it supports narrow band frequency steps. These narrow band allocations were not even around when this scanner hit the market.

The old Uniden 780xlt will allow those steps, if you can find one.
Mine doesn't.

+1!! My 780XLT's are over 20 years old and still in use. Easily in the top 5 of the best scanners Uniden madeYou didn't buy it, you STOLE it !! GREAT deal !!

As much a favorite as my Pro-2006.
Do not have one in front of me at the moment. But could it do it in search mode only by hitting the step button? I thought it was capable that way but could very well be wrong.
Thanks like I said I was not sure. Still have a 8500xlt 9000xlt both with tone boards in storage.

I bought a 780 a couple of years ago at a hamfest for the same price. The guy selling it made sure I understood that it wouldn't do digital modes. ( that was his reason for selling it) I told him I was interested in it for Airband. He said in that case, I would be happy as it worked great for Airband. And he was right! It is great for Civil Airband and MilAir. Exactly what I was looking for.

I run one of mine now almost exclusively on civil and mil air bands. As you said, they are stellar for air band, and seem to perform extremely well through the entire VHF/UHF ranges.

This one has a broken volume/squelch pot. I found a new pot online. Arriving today actually. So I should be good to go after a little soldering job. Besides that, it’s in perfect working order. I used to own one when they came out, but sold it to upgrade to the 785 then 796..I did make a few changes. First, I removed the useless rubber piece that goes across the center of the built in speaker. Next I removed the large resistor that limits the audio output. And last, I adjusted the VHF/UHF squelch pot on the pc board so it’s nice and tight. Once the volume pot issue is fixed today, that baby should be good to go. Can’t wait to tune in the air bands.

I'm turning myself in to authorities for the theft....
It was at a Hamfest. The scanner had a broken volume/squelch pot. I found one online and it's up and running perfectly.On a side note, with the back of the set antenna, I was able to pick up Boston Air Center comms on 125.575 while the scanner sat on my desk, in my apartment, on a first floor. AMAZING!

UPDATE: Since you guys were so nice to point me to the BC780, I figured I would share the before and after pics of the $20 scanner project. I took it all apart to exchange the volume/squelch pots and do the soldering. I cleaned it inside/out. Did a few mods, threw in some new knobs and done! Total cost, $35 including the scanner price and the new pot. Not bad at all. Up and running like new.

What's the Red thingy around the case in the front ? Occasionally when I run across them, frequently the knobs are broke or missing and the stand is broke or missing altogether. I suspect the knobs disappear from Dropping the scanner.
