I'm wanting to upgrade to a scanner that will receive NXDN and DMR, and am trying to decide which scanner would be better--the Uniden BC325P2 or the Whistler TX-1. Currently, I am using a Whistler 1088, which does a good job. Also, wondering if the database I have made for the 1088 would work in the TX-1. Helpful comments would be welcomed.

Did you mean TRX-1?

I own the 325P2. It's an excellent scanner with NO issues.

The downside is you have to pay for add-ons like NXDN and DMR.

Uniden is my preference, since Uniden has demonstrated a continued interest in developing and supporting scanners.

Whistler has seemingly put scanner development "on hold".

Good luck.

I would rather pay for upgrades that work correctly than get it for free and not work correctly. If you have to deal with p2 simulcast Transmissions, one works and one doesn't.

One had a recent update, the other???.

I think the 325/996 are a better value than the TRX-1/TRX-2. The programming software (EZ Scan) for the TRX-1 & TRX-2 is hugely lacking. I'm using FreeScan for the Uniden models and have no complaints.

Thanks for the replies so far, and yes it is the TRX-1. I thought I had read in a post that the TRX-1 does not follow NXDN trunking--could someone advise?

Thanks very much for the informative replies and the clarification concerning the TRX-1 on NXDN.

But still if you chose a 996P2 or 325P2 I have both if you want to follow NXDN or DMR Trunking you will have to have all the channels along with the correct LCN for the 996P2 or 325P2 to track and I have tested both on this system https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8220
After getting the NXDN upgrade I made a almost 400 mile round trip drive from my house to test both against my SDS200 SDS100 536 and 436 also I used my TRX-1 all sharing the same antenna through a Stridesberg so all were programmed the same on the same antenna and the P2's shined.

I've got both radios, and I'd give a slight edge to the BCD325P2 for many of the reasons given above.

An advantage of the TRX-1 is that it can be programmed directly from the RadioReference database. The '325 requires third-party software (I'm using the applicable ARC product), which I believe can be rigged up to import files from that database (a paste and copy process, I think), but I've never tried to do so.

The problem with the '325 is its extremely short battery life. It's trying to do a lot with only two AA batteries in the engine room (so to speak). Be sure to get some high-capacity rechargeable batteries and a good charger (I recommend the Powerex line).

Hope this helps.

I would recommend that you do NOT get PowerEx but instead use EneLoops.

Except for a a few minor flaw's with the 325p2, I'm almost totally happy with mine. If you want me to explain, just pm me,as my complaint's have already been aired here, and seconded.

Whistler TRX-1 or Uniden BCD325P2? I've had both. The BCD325P2 wins, hands down.

Thanks again for all your comments. Is there a way to work around the battery issue? I keep my WS-1088 plugged into the 12 V in my car and use rechargeable batteries.
