Can I use the new BC_VUP 2.0.0.3 to re-load back to 1.13.17 firmware on a BCD396T after having gone to 2.00.07 without any adverse affects to the scanner?

You can go back to the last V1 update on the 996 by just applying it using BC_VUP. We have not published a reversion path for the 396 (but do have one on standby if needed), since it would be a bit more involved.

Upman can you provide this reversion path when you have some time. I tried BC_VUP 1.5.2.1 loading 1.13.17, but obviously you knew that wouldn't work  .

Thanks,
PP

delta_p: You cannot currently revert from 2.00.07 to any 1.x version. If you are having a particular issue requiring such a reversion, please send me an email describing your problems.

(I probably won't see your email until about 8 hours after this post, so please be patient.)

396 update problem

Hello, I am trying to install the update and I am getting a program error it reads,

Program Error
Please check the following things

*Connect your scanner to your PC using the standard PL interface cable

*Keep your scanner connected to external power on scanner

I have updated the ESN and check sum. When I down load the new update it does not seem to let me save in in the .scn* file. It is the only thing I can think of. I start up BC_VUP and when I go to the folder where the update is it does not open in .scn I have to use all files. I have tried to unzip it before hand and it will not let me. Any ideas, I really want to get this working. Thanks Bob

unzip the scn file to the same folder as BC-VUP

This is exactly why I suggested that Uniden zip these files together along with the PDF so they all get into the same folder, one less step for mistakes.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to update my registration with the ESN serial number and checksum, I get an error message stating please enter a valid serial number using integers. Checksum is okay. I've tried several times and I just get the same error message. Any help would be appreciated.

Which scanner? You don't put in any letters, only numbers, sounds like your trying to put the whole serial number in with some letters as well

396 scanner. No, only last nine integers in ESN number. I wrote these down when I loaded the update and verified them in the scanner. I click update but the registration will not update. The error message says checksum is fine.

Whats the exact error message your getting? Also, I had to do it close 15-20 times before it took as the site was busy and it didn't want to take more than one at a time, you had to get lucky.....

If the error message said as you quoted, then you haven't entered a Serial number (physical, not electronic) in the blank provided or you entered an invalid one. You need only enter the last 8 digits (the first 5 are shown on our web page next to the blank and are the same for all 396s).

ESN Registration Update Error

Check Sum passes. Please go back by clicking your back button and enter a valid 8 digit serial number using integers. I'm entering the last 9 digits, all integers. I tried truncating to 8 but that doesn't work either. I thought the server might be busy, but why the error message?

Did you register the scanner and enter the scanners actual serial number? Thats what I think it's asking for....ie: they don't have the physical scanners serial number so it can't associate the electronic ESN with it

two serial numbers

There are TWO serial numbers.

The mechanical serial number is printed on the label on the rear apron of the scanner. That is what the web site asks for next to "Serial number" (the field on the left half of that screen). You will enter the last 8 digits after those pre-printed on the web page for you as a prompt.

The electronic serial number is displayed after the first update and goes into the ESN field (the field on the right half of that screen). You will enter 9 numeric digits that fall after the common digits pre-printed on the screen as a prompt.

The serial numbers are virtually identical, but the web site knows what it is asking for and is picky.

The screen already has the correct serial number for my scanner, I verified this by checking inside the battery compartment. This value cannot be changed on the screen. I entered the nine integers for the esn serial number following the common default digits as well as the esn checksum value. I've verified both the esn serial number and checksum value under firmware version in my scanner and also with desktop text icon that is created at the time of the esn update. I can't find any errors.
