Ok I recieved my bcd396t on thursday. I have used it a little each day since then and the volume has always been set to 8 the way it came. This morning when I turned it on the volume is lower then what its been. It seems a lot lower. I never tried changing it but if I go to vol 2 when someone is talking you cant here it anymore at all. Is this the way it is supposed to be? I mean I can make the volume louder but why would it change like this after 3 days of using it. I am scanning mostly conv. and reg trunked systems atm, no digital atm. Thanks.

What firmware version is currently in the 396? The latest version (1.11.03) gives you more adjustment from what it originally was. In previous versions a 2 setting was a low to moderate volume level. Now a 4-5 is moderate volume.

Its the latest firmware. Thats the way the scanner came but like I said it was louder for 3 days on vol 8. now since this morning its lower on the same vol setting with the same channels. Also should i be using AGC? do most people use it ?

But any ideas on the volume getting lower.. Im thinking it has to be a hardware problem since it changed for no reason.

Could be an audio problem, but I would try turning on the analog AGC. A good test would be to tune to a NOAA weather station and see if it changes. Turn the radio off and back on and note the volume again. Is it on all frequencies?

"Its the latest firmware."

What's the version number reported by your scanner?
