Any USB mini cable will do. Your power source will need at least .75 amps output.

Get a battery charger, and. A spare set of rechargeable batteries. Don't charge them in the scanner.

The internal charge system in the scanner doesn't work very well. You'll need an external charger that charge each battery separate and not connected in series. It needs to have a temperature sensor as when the battery are fully charge it will instead convert all charge current into heat, and heat destroyes batteries. I have one charger where each battery rests on a temp sensor.

You may already know this: the cable that plugs in to power the scanner is the same cable that will charge your batteries in the scanner when the scanner is turned off and the menu is set to charge the batteries. The batteries in the scanner will not charge unless the scanner menu is set to charge the batteries when the scanner is off. Usually when you turn the scanner off (436model) a menu will pop up asking if you want to charge the batteries; then press yes/no buttons.

I use a La Crosse charger that shows the charging rate values, etc. However, I have also used the Eneloop battery charger along with these batteries. You can get these online. Make sure you get the AAs since the default purchase on Amazon is for another size. I know this because of screwing up the order by this method. You get around 1500 recharges. Other chargers work, but not all of them have a pilot light to show when the batteries are fully charged.

This charger can be rather hard to find. I would imagine Ebay is a good choice. Other models from La Crosse have had some problems.
