BCD436HP in Niagara Region need help

Just got my scanner. Programmed it according to radio reference, have all OPP, EMS, St Catharines, Niagara Falls fire but I'm not picking up welland ..port colborne. Fort Erie fire.

Is it because I'm too far away? What would be the reason?

When you hold on a control channel, do you have any signal level? If not, yup too far.

re the Larsen,
I find generally that the stock antenna is not sufficient, so always use one of these two and dramatic increase it makes, you dont say anything about antenna , so im going to assume this is your first and now you need to pony up, than you should be able to hear signals from afar.
Remember height can be your friend , so get antenna up as high as cable will allow for.
Also try search mode , ie scan the range of the control channels of a trunk you want to hear and if the scanner stops on the active one , you are generally in range if not, too far, Good luck

Why am I not getting Welland, Fort Erie, Port Colborne and Wainfleet fire?

I live in Niagara Falls and get them and St Catharines.

Any suggestions? Are they all digital or some analog?

You are monitoring VHF signals. You need to get yourself a decent VHF antenna.

So you think that's what the problem could be the stock antenna..
What antenna do you recommend see if it fixes my problem

I'm out in North West Niagara and I can get all the radio signals from Niagara Falls just fine with my D130J discone antenna.

Yes, most of the stuff for the region is VHF.

The only 2 I get are Niagara Falls and St. Catharines, gonna try changing the antenna maybe it will help.
