In the middle of this I started thinking about how redundant the trunktracker V is redundant as it is flexible.

Since some of the nationwide or statewide systems are in several counties/states, why not just make a favorite list that you can toggle on and off each one like CB/GMRS/FRS, trunking system A, trunking system B, trunking system C. If you had state A and state B most likely many of the records were going to repeat being scanned if they are all favorite list enabled at the same time. Idea being saving time and energy going back through the full database for items you already have in another favorite list duplicated and make another favorite list for overlapping entries in multiple counties. Sure the TTV works fine in the field without the use of sentinel, as organizing the favorite lists by trunking system or common system like CB would require sentinel.

Now if you use the gps option, it'll do that automatically. But still don't always need the rarely used frequencies which can be turned off/on in the select service types.

The firmware notes say that version and the latest are practically no different. But it looks like ouchahol did the trick.
It's not that Uniden have made a mistake in the firmware, then thousands of user would have non working keypads.
The firmware are in memory that keep the data even when power are removed. After a while the memory could "heal" itself and slowly revert to its original state as unprogrammed. By reprogramming that memory area with fresh data bits you could revive the memory to a fully working state. You do that by loading an old firmware and then do an update to the latest version.

It was probably trying to do something like that when I went through SD card format exercise. Didn't change anything. Thought I had installed latest version of Sentinel in order to update to latest firmware already on the radio. But it wanted me to update Sentinel again. Then when it planted the newest firmware it wanted me to restart the radio and wait for it to update. It didn't do any updating of firmware being as though it's already newest. Or at least that's what I could tell. Sometimes that works, but firmware is usually different animal than updating just plain old software or updating database.

I assume the power button is one of the most used buttons so should have failed first, not be the only working button.

I generally agree, but also keep in mind that continual use will keep the contacts 'cleaner' through exercize and continue working while other keys can build up a non-conductive film.
