I bought a new 436HP last week. I've been playing for about a week now. I was scanning
the local FD 460.xxx and county fire 151.xxx. Both agencies Xmit from the same mountain top.

I was scanning them using a poor mans scanner BF UV82 (Xmit disabled). Both freqs about 80% quieting on signal audio.

Listening on new 436HP audio scratchy lots of noise. External antenna 150/450 combo antenna on roof of house.
800 trunk systems 85-90 quieting and 500mhz Mobile Relay LTR repeater systems decent audio.

Question is "does the UV82 have a better front end, or is the 436HP made with weaker front end"?

Also our local ambulance switched over to NXDN still using their original analog freq. 155.xx
I installed the NXDN upgrade and can listen to ambulance NXDN transmissions.
The radio decodes the NXDN signal but the converted audio is almost impossible to understand.

The dog catcher is using Moto type 2 digital Smartzone. analog audio is perfect digital audio is as bad as the NXDN sites.

Any insights would be welcome.
Thx

The BCDx36HP scanners have one filter for 137-224MHz and one for 320-510MHz.
Most radios, even Baofengs, have "proper" tracking filters that are way more narrow and the narrower you can make filters the better the sensitivity will be.

The negative thing about cheap radios are that the semiconducters used in the receiver are often of lousy quality that easily gets overloaded from strong signals and are prone to intermodulation problems. But for weak signal reception they are excellent and much better than any police scanner.

I have much better analog receive on my cheapy also. Better audio and clearer. They're great for monitoring a few channels.
