I would like to hear pros and cons on your experience with the dongle on a BCD536HP. I just purchased one and wanted to see if it’s worth having and how much trouble it is to setup. Thanks for taking time for your reply.
Yes it’s in the mail. I have one of the first BCD536HP and seen a comment that they had trouble setting them up. Don’t know if this was fixed with a upgrade or not. Figured it was worth $20 to find out. Can’t find much information on setting one up.The Wi-Fi puck? It lets you connect your scanner to your network. It's nothing fancy, but it works.

That’s what I was afraid of, not seeing to many good comments. Oh well wasn’t that expensive, just something to try, who knows.I have one on mine and when I had a 30 day trial of ProScan, that was how I was interfacing the scanner to the network to stream it from my house to my computer at work. The only issue I had was my computer would freeze up with ProScan when it was open for a period of time.
Now the app to connect to it is pure utter garbage.
What do you intend to use it for? The Uniden Siren app is pretty basic, if it works at all. Are you intending to stream your scanner? After the update is there much to finish setting up? I find no instructions.
If you use ProScan, that is rock solid. Like I said the issue I had was with my computer. At this time, I haven't forked out the money to setup a dedicated machine to run ProScan on and do the streaming in the house or at work. I just haven't got around to it. I may on my server stuff at some point try to run a Windows 10 virtual machine and do ProScan. That’s what I was afraid of, not seeing to many good comments. Yes I had planned on using Siren, if that doesn’t work then I’ll go to Proscan. Then I’m sure I’ll be back with even more questions.🤭 I just hate going to something different, I use Sentinel for programing and have enough trouble. Guess I won’t know till I try.So the steps i listed just puts it on your network. You still need some way to listen.
Siren doesn't work for me at all any more, even though it used to. I use ProScan now.
I’m I wrong I was thinking I had read that you couldn’t use ProScan to update the BCD536HP? That you had to use Sentenial or can you use both? Is ProScan free like Sentinel?Proscan is much more reliable and feature packed than the Siren app by far. Plus with Proscan you can configure the web server feature to allow you to listen and control to your scanner from any device with a web browser anywhere in the world. Whereas with Siren you're limited to the confines of your home wifi
You can only update radio firmware via Sentinel. The database /favorites lists can be updated via either program. Proscan is free for 30 days. Afterwards, $50 gets you two activations.
