Help please! I am new to this... I recently purchased a UNIDEN BCD536HP. I have figured out how to access the local police agencies on my scanner, however, I don't actually hear any talk. I live in Vancouver, BC. Why are all the police departments and their respective dispatch channels programmed on the scanner if I can't actually hear anything? Im getting very frustrated!! Please Help me!!!

Thank you!

The lower mainland uses (for now) a protocol called Provoice, which is decodable but only with a paid addition to the 536. You can purchase the "Provoice Upgrade" from Uniden for $50 US (plus GST/HST). ProVoice < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

Note: RCMP who are not on the ECOMM radio system are using P25 in encrypted mode, and encryption is (by definition) not now or ever decodable by a scanner.

The big question here is did you get the Provoice firmware upgrade? It costs 50.00 US plus your HST. Most of the police departments in your area are on Provoice.

Very easy several things could be happening. One is your squelch true down and 2 stations do not transmit all the time only when their is a police call will you hear something also where did you get the Freq that you are using. have you updated the Data base a is the Firm ware updated just because the radio is new does not mean that the firm ware is

Actually, the situation was that he didn't have the ProVoice option; we've already resolved that.
