1. Does plugging an external speaker into the jack on the back kill the internal speaker?
2. In case the customer decides they want to connect several external speakers, is there a "line level" audio output available to to hook the scanner to a Bogen P.A. amplifier input that would allow us to drive several speakers located in different parts of a building?
Thanks.

1. Probably. There's a limit to how many speakers an audio amp can safely drive.

2. Line level and headphone level are roughly equivalent. You can connect headphone to line in safely. You'll want to adjust scanner volume to optimize gain staging between scanner and PA amp/mixer. You'll also want to use a ground loop isolator between the scanner and PA device.

UPMan, is the REC out a fixed level not affected by the Volume control?

Many many years ago there was a receiver for the fire station PA speakers that had a nail tru the volume control knob.
