I'm everywhere Focker!
I unable to find the thread either. It may have been removed due to no posts for a period of time.

I didn't knew that they removed old posts from Upman. Then valuable advice from him on different topics will be lost. That's a pity as it would had been good to have such reference material still in the radio reference forum.
No posts have been removed.

Yes remove preamp, outside antenna. In simulcast... less antenna is more.
depending on your location and the tower locations, try as mentioned above turning on the attenuator option on the site and increasing the squelch.
Also try with combination of the above or by itself.

Also see
They mention using a cookie sheet, paperclip antenna.

It will be trial and error for sure.
Hi Ron, So I’m back asking a question regarding one of the symptoms in the 2nd video you posted that has just popped up. My scanner was working great, and all of a sudden the signal meter is going in and out and the end of the transmission is dropping out. Usually I can correct the dropped signals by changing the P25 threshold up and down. But for some that signal meter is 5 bars going in and out constantly.
I guess my last resort will be to upgrade to the SDS scanner to correct the problem.
Thanks Bill S.

1167, that is another way simulcast can act.
i used to get 5 bars and no audio, and then audio, and then no audio.
so we bought the SDS100, all is well.
is the radio staying in the same place or did something else move maybe ?
and then TRY moving the radio around.
i had a race antenna that did OK on the 325 on our system, and the radio was in a cell holder and horizontal.
that antenna is less than 2 inches tall.

But for some that signal meter is 5 bars going in and out constantly.
Usually on Uniden scanners there will be a 6dB difference in signal strength for each signal bar. 5 bars are 30dB and a 996 has a 20dB attenuator that can be set individually to channels or trunked systems.

Enable that attenuator for that simulcast system with a 5 bar signal strength and it will be pretty much like using a racing antenna for high signal monitoring to try and only receive one site and not several on the same frequency that will create interference in a non-simulcast capable receiver, but you will still have full signal reception on any other system you are scanning when those are scanned with the attenuator disabled.

That affects SIMULCAST
Radio waves in general but especially those higher up in frequency. For the last couple years a group of us have been testing some stuff on 900 MHz and it's amazing what a couple of trees in the way can change. (ok more than a couple but you get the jest of it).

Not only can and will leaves block signals but they will also reflect signals.
Unfortunately I have trees that surround my house. I am thinking the leafs coming on after a long winter have changed the reception to my radio. I’m thinking about a roof top antenna as the next solution.

Adding an OUTSIDE ANTENNA will only make your problems worse using a 996p2 if you are having SIMULCAST problems.
So here is a question, The police are at the lowest point traveling on the streets all the time. How is it that their signal to the dispatcher is not lost? Are they using better equipment than what we are listening to on our scanners?

Yes they are using Professional Radios that cost Thousands of dollars and are designed to work with Simulcast Systems.
To give you an Idea
APX6000 when new was $6000 per Radio
APX7000 when new was $7000 per Radio
Apx8000 when new was $8000 per Radio
There are cheaper radios that work but these were the top of the line that most were sold and the Systems still had to be fine tuned to work the best even with these radios.
