Hi, I just purchased a BCD996P2 scanner and I programmed it just like my BCD325P2 and it will stop on TGs but there's no audio. I'm scanning MOSWIN in MO and my 325 is working great so i know the 996 should work as well. It seems to work on 700 mhz P25 but it will not on VHF P25 for some reason. Ive checked the settings, updated firmware and did a factory reset with no success. Is there something I'm missing on this 996? It seems to be a good radio, I just cant figure out why it aquires the control channel and seems to be working and stopping on TGs like it should just no audio, but like I said 700mhz P25 and conventional freqs seem to be working fine. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

How did you clone the programming? Did you do it manually, with a cable or using software (which is the way I would do it)? Which app?

If you were to dump your 996 programming, folks here can take a look at it and see what is amiss

Do you hear VHF conventional analog frequencies on the 996P2, such as NOAA weather? Is there a problem with VHF P25 conventional or trunking? Which VHF MOSWIN sites are you using?

Yes conventional and 700mhz seem to work well. It shows a strong signal on control channel and I watch both scanners and both stop on TGs but no audio out of 996. Everything seems fine except no audio. I’ve tried multiple antennas still no luck.

Does the 996 stay on the TG as long as the 325, I.E. it monitors the whole conversation without any audio and doesn't start to scan immediately after the 2 sec delay runs out? Can the 996 display user ID's and in that case does it do that on the voice channel?

It does stop on the tg’s but it will start to scan again even when the 325 is still stopped on a busy tg. The 996 will have audio only when the system is using 155.355, if it’s on any of the other freqs in the system it will not have audio. But when the system is using that 155.355 freq it works perfectly.

Are you receiving audio on the Kingston 700 site in Caldwell County on both scanners? According to the database, 155.355 is a voice frequency in Clay County. Which sites are you using? If receiving audio on 155.355 only, you are not set up properly for the Lawson site in Clay County. By any chance, do you have 155.355 set up as a conventional frequency in the 996?

Hi thanks, no I didn’t program each freq in individually just the control channel. Yeah I’m receiving the Kingston site which is 700mhz just fine.

Double check that both scanners have the bandplan programmed the same for that VHF system. I don't know if 325 uses NAC's but set that to Search in the 996.

Both scanners have the same band plan. I’m not sure how to get it to scan for nac’s on a trunked p25, can you tell me how please? The manual shows how but I can’t find it in any menu option on the system. Thank you.

You should program both the control channel and alternate or alternates for each site. If the control channel changes to an alternate, you will lose the site.

The Uniden SDS100 and SDS200 are the only scanners that can use site NAC. I don't see any P25 conventional frequencies in Caldwell County.

Then it's probably a P25-II system? As the manual says:

" P25 NAC Option (P25-1Tr only) allows you to have the scanner search for NAC codes or you can program a specific code for the system."

There is currently an issue we are researching that may affect P25 operation above 171.2 MHz. We do not know yet if it is a firmware issue or an issue with revised hardware.

The other thread seems to be locked to further replies; The 2 BCD536hp's I have the problem with were bought in the past 2 months... I sent the first back and the second one I still have. Both would not decode P25 above around 170mhz
Thank You for looking into this for us. Both of my older 536's are running the current firmware with no problem decoding (they are a 1-2 years old)

I have the same issue with my BCD996P2. It doesn't decode p25 above 170. I have a BCD996T and it is flawless on MOSWIN in Lafayette County.

I just bought a BCD996P2 and it appears to have this problem too. I'm trying to receive (from RadioReference) name=Durham-Prime Site, county=Durham with freqs in the mid-800Mhz range. The scanner stops briefly on receiving and then immediately resumes searching for the next signal. I only get to hear a few words at a time.

I sure hope this gets resolved soon as the scanner is useless as it is.
