BCD325P2/BCD996P2: BCD996P2 Volume Control sometimes won't go past 9 or 10?

I recently purchased a second the BCD996P2 from Amazon and this unit's volume will sometimes work perfectly, while other times it will go about 1/4 turn (from 0) without displaying any change in volume, then it will seem to only max out at 9, or sometimes 10, and then occasionally 13 or 14.

I contacted support and the lady suggested I ship it back to them. Before I do this, I'm just curious if anyone else has ran into this issue and maybe found a possible solution.

Don’t know about the top end volume but on my 4 996P2s the volume does nothing for a bit before it comes off 0!

Maybe someone will have some ideas why. It's an interesting problem because it seems very inconsistent. Right when I'm ready to mail it in, it behaves properly for a couple weeks ;-)
