It appears that for some reason and suddenly tonight the bottom firing speaker on my BCD996T fails to work after I remove my headphones from the front headphone jack. Just wondering if there is something I might be able to do before I call myself S.O.L. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like you have a stuck headphone jack switch. This problem has been posted in the forum numerous times. Do a search for “Headphone & 996” to see what others have reported. You’re going to have to send the unit back to Uniden for repair. Expect the unit to be gone for at least 30 days for repair. I had the same thing happen to me and since then I don’t dare use the headphone jacks on any of my Unidens.

It’s a shame; you pay all that money for a high end scanner and a simple item like a headphone jack switch breaks on it. I had tons of other electronic devices which use headphones and never had this problem. I guess its cheap parts.

Had the same thing happen with my BCT-15.
Tried everything I could and still ended up having to ship back for repair.

Put a headphone jack back in it, and back out see if that works.
Sometimes that will release the headphone jack.

Make sure you send it UPS and not USPS. This way you casn track it and it gets there quicker.
