That is the correct path (at least it matches my setup except my user name is not "Administrator"). The macro expects to find the KEN CUSTOM.usc file in a subdirectory named "UASD_config" and the systems referenced in that configuration in a subdirectory named "UASD_systems." If you are using different subdirectories, either name them back to the default or edit the macro to look in your subdirectories (fairly easy to do...just look for "UASD_config" and "UASD_systems" in the macro and change them to what you use).

I triple checked it.

I even tried to load the "preload..." file. No go. It's got to be the file path. I'll try moving the data to a new and simpler path.

I have been using the butel software to edit, but I don't think it should matter since there is data in the approp directories.

Hmmm... i'll keep messing with it. I have a limited experience with macros.

I use 3 backslashes for path as in \\\My Documents\UASD_DataBase\BCD996T\

It passes through the path OK and starts reading the configuration then there is an error "Error (52): Bad file name or number"

This is where I'm stuck right now.

I examined every single .usd file in Notepad to add double-quotes " " where needed for every system (as per the 996 syntax) . I think the syntax of the .usd is good now.
I'm probably missing something simple.

BC246T, BR330T and BCD396T users

I have attached an MS Excel 2002 workbook for mapping your BCD996T configuration. I wrote this so that I could post a map of my system, groups and quick keys by my scanner. You are welcome to use this however I will not support it.

There is a sheet named "Setup" where you will need to define the location of your scanner data and configuration name. After that, run the macro named "BuildMap". The macro will read your configuration and system files and organize them according to system, group, etc. After that, you can use the grouping to display only the systems and groups.

Here's a version that work for the BC246T, BR330T and BCD396T. Trapped a couple of miscelaneous errors but other than that I've not made that much changes.

It create a new worksheet and name it by the scanner model, it's more convenient for user that have more than one scanner model.

I had to delete your original sheet named BCD396T and adjusted the path for my own system and voilà!! presto! done!

I changed my path to the above and there is a longer delay before the error message.... but I still get bad path.

Re BCD996t Firmware Upgrade

Hi, Everyone I have just tried to upgrade my firmware on the 996t, I got a comm error I think it was because I forgot to change the prot from back to front, when I turned the scanner off and then back on to chnage the settings I now only have a flashing green screen. Has anyone has this problem.

UASD_systems (Contains multiple systems)
UASD_locations

Does the workbook need to be run from a certain location?

Could there be a problem with other file names (system names)?

Any other suggestions? I have tried all those listed so far.

I noticed something else when I tried to run this. I jump-started my 996 programming by copying over the system files from my UASD_396 database. When I first ran the macro, I got an error that the first *.usd file was not correct, with a run error. However,the file looked fine in UASD_996, so I saved it, (File->Save), without making any changes. The error message, as pertaining to that specific system file, went away.

When it then gave me a similar error on the next *.usd system file, in alphabetical order, I repeated the save process. While the 396 files work fine for programming the 996 via UASD (I'm using the 996 as a base right now, so I'm not entering the GPS location data), apparently the macro is looking for those missing fields used for the 996, but absent in a 396 file. After doing a drive-by save on each of the *.usd 996 files, the macro works as intended. I made no changes to any of the system files, just opened them in UASD_996, 'glanced' at the group settiings, then did a manual save. The manual save was done since I had not made a change to the system that would have triggered the "Save" or "Save as" dialog box that appears after a system is edited then is being closed.

For the path sequence, I opened Windows Explorer, & copied the address from the address bar display. (easier than typing it)

I got the modified file, provided by inextremis, to work as well on the 396, 330, & 246. As Anabella noted, you do need to delete the 396 sheet first. Running the macro then will map the scanner & create a new BCD396T worksheet with your system files. Same with the other two scanners. Delete the existing scanner worksheet first, then run the macro after setting your path and config file name.
