I'm thinking about buying the the BCD996XT. I live in San Diego County and most of what I want to scan is in digital format. I looked into the BCT15X because of the price but it won't receive digital. Does Uniden plan on adding the "Bear Tracker" feature to the BCD996XT in the future?

I'd Say probably Not, And i have a 996 and I love it got it at Radio Shack same as my 396 it Cost $419.99 and you might check your Local shack stores you can do an area Search Once you land on the 996's page Tap Find it Near By).
As they may have the Unit for this price.. One thing to NOTE.! you will have to program it on your Own though as the Corporate Stores have dropped doing programming but there New in the Box and that is all that Counts and in the same area of the scanners they have what I consider one of the Best of the Best Antenna's for a Smooth $25.00 Dollar bill you'll need a Right angle BNC to point it skyward..
One other option to Consider if you get it at a Shack store and I did is if Money is Tight check and see if you Qualify for the Shack Card you can get 10% off if there Running that special or They might be Running there 12 months No interest. And the Shack also gives Military discounts as Well..
But any you do it! It is a Very Good Scanner.. Good Luck Ra

Doubtful. Bear Tracker is a useless gimmick. The 996XT is a killer radio.

With as many State Police and Troopers now using the statewide digital systems as there are, the beartracker function would seem to me to be pretty much useless anymore. The states that are not using a statewide trunking system, it should still work ok I guess. I've got a 15X, and never use the beartracker function on it.
