Is there a common thread that all those with the problem are using the ARC software?
It may be related to that - sending a lock command or not sending the unlock?
If this happened after using the ARC software, I would try using the USAD (demo should work) and see if it unlocks after exit.

It is most likely related to the 30-position ZIF cable that connects the keypad to the main logic board. We'll know more as soon as the units come into the repair shop. This is not a firmware or software (Butel or otherwise) issue and seems to have affected fewer than a half dozen of all units (combined BCT15 and BCD996T) sold.

You never see Radio Shack giving this type of feedback to customer complaints/issues.

Possible root cause and containment actions mentioned, with a follow-up to follow soon.

Thanks for the GREAT QUALITY SUPPORT UP Man!

Boy, this sure is getting difficult! Just as I start getting excited thinking I've got the unit I need/want....just as I'm about to make the jump and get some new rigs(RS - UNI)I see all this confounded computer nonsense. Just like buying a new car I suppose. I'm looking to get the BCT15 and/or BCT8,BC898T. What's my final decision going to be....?.....anyone? Thank God I've got enough time to waste and continued reading/searching through all the forums. This is quite the information supermarket.....and I'm glad!

I wouldn't worry about it and go ahead and get the BCT15. I owned both the BCD996T and the BCT15 since they were released and I have not had a single problem. Like he said, it's only appeared on half-a-dozen units. How many have been sold, hundreds I would guess. Besides, if you did have a issues, look at the great support you get from Uniden and others. I know most companies like CEI will work with you if you have problems.

I wouldn't say I'm worried...I think....but what can you do? That's the problem though-having to send back a unit you just got worked up to purchase and then go through that kind of garbonza. Then you have to worry about shelling out additional money to cover that?!? Like you said, sounds like great support and only a few problems. Besides the cost it's no different than going through mickey D's 100 times and getting a burger with onions you didn't want once!

Keypad lockup cured itself. BCD996T

So I was gearing up to send my scanner for a return trip to Texas, but this morning it has cured itself. I can use the keypad again.

I'll wait a few days and see what happens since I use the scanner daily.

So far, every unit (which, between the BCD996T and BCT15 has amounted to fewer than 10) that has come in for this has had an internal keypad cable that has lost connection. While it has gotten a lot of discussion, and I absolutely sympathize with the few who have had this happen, it is not a major issue (well, except for those few).

I keep away from soldering equipment lest I start a fire.

I am one of the ones that had the cable problem with the BCT-15 all I can say is sometimes things happen with as many scanners that Uniden has out there 100% perfect is a nice goal but not likely. Uniden found the problem and fixed the problem is a timely manner. I am enjoying this scanner every day and would buy another BCT15 without a second of hesitation Uniden has a great service department

same problem

I have the same problem with my new bct15.
All key locked since yesterday... only work the dial, volume and squelch.
But I live outside USA, in Latin America... :(
Not easy to resend to USA to repair center.

Im read that is a wire internal problem...

Any way to solvent this problem?

solved problem, PICS.

I touched smoothly this piece with my finger, and the keyboard lockout disappeared.
Remember touch very smoothly to avoid damages.

I only did this experimentally and my keyboard works normally again.
I am happy! :p

I only wait that the keyboard problem it does not reappear.
Sorry for my english.

See the pics and good luck !

hi all you have to do is press lockout and hold until it says all unlocked.
