hi all you have to do is press lockout and hold until it says all unlocked.

actually, there is a cable defect in some of the BC15s and some of the 996ts, where even the lockout button does not work.

I also have a BCD996T and the keyboard went defunct yesterday.

Thanks for you honesty UPMan!

I was discouraged I would have to buy another expensive Uniden product with the unreliability of having that unit too malfunctioning, but now am grateful of your honesty and my faith reinstated. (4+ years of having the BCD996T and going strong!)

My thoughts on this, I spent some time near the ocean coast around Kenai, Alaska. Being around the ocean coastal region seems to cause excessive salt water corrosion. So maybe the contacts are getting ever so slightly corroded.

But after further examining the plastic ribbon contact, it might be a better theory that the unit is becoming susceptible to temperature variations. Being in Fairbanks Alaska, we experience -60F to 90F, and my vehicle on the inside can experience 100F+. Seeing the flimsy plastic retaining female/male part for the ribbon can likely become flexible during the extreme temperatures. Also, this is a 90 degree connection to a separately mounted PCB board, again subjective to more flexing then usually seen when connecting to jumpers onto the same (flat) PCB board.

My scenario was similar to most others. No keypad except for other buttons & knobs working. When merrily touching just one of the connectors, the keypad started working again. Thanks to the person whom successfully troubleshooted and located the faulty flat ribbon as I thought the ribbon was for the display only!!!
