I have the Regency version (built by Uniden) of the BCT796 scanner. Got it off ebay a few weeks ago and until a few days it was working just fine. Like most of my scanners, it runs 24-7. Got up the other morning and the screen was blank only showing "SCN", but it wasn't scanning anything. Non of the other functions working other than the button "beeps" when pressed. Anyone with any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Never heard of a Regency BCT796. You sure it's not a Uniden Bearcat BC796D?

If you try a NOAA weather frequency can you hear anything?

I would check the antenna and cable or conector.

I didn't say it was a Regency BCT796. I said it's the Regency version of the BCT796. Both are/were built by Uniden.

Again, I've never heard of a BCT796. There are a series of BCT radios and the 796 was not one of them. BCT stands for BearTracker by Uniden and the 796 never had this feature. The latest model in production with this feature is the BCT15.
