BCT8 pc control mode HELP!

Myself and my work just bought 2 BCT8s, i downloaded the software from the uniden site and i am using an adapter to go from the serial port behind the scanner to my laptop(it has worked for several other scanners) I keep gettin a communication error that says "please check BCT8 or BCT8 SS remote setting". I dont know why that is coming up, everthing is tight and im pretty sure i did everything right. If anyone knows whats going on please let me know, thanks.
