Bear Canyon Juab County

Just a FYI... I went camping the last few days in Bear Canyon (off the Mt Nebo Scenic Loop) in Juab County. The only 800 MHz comms I could hear was site 23 Mt Baldy which was carrying mostly UHP traffic from SL Co, UT Co and Richfield Dispatch. Interesting since that box canyon is otherwise pretty much a dead zone.

Lots of people give 800 a bad rap (mostly from stuff that happened in the 1980's) but at times it does work pretty well. I work off of an 800 P25 site that I can talk back onto at about 45 miles - using a triplexer on a 1/4 VHF antenna.

Out on the east coast we found that pine needles play havoc as they tend to be at the right lenght to attuate the signals pretty effectively.

In that area I move to VHF. I have noticed Mt Ford and Mt Baldy in and out in that area.
just a bit higher I have heard Monroe Peak (643E)

My question is does it cover santiquin Mona nephi canyon area if it does and it's Uhp I would see if its linked with TG 38720 which has talked about these areas today. Richfield dispatches that area but I heard another dispatch as well. Check also the other post about TG 38720 which is NOT in the database yet and see if this info matches...

TG 38720 I would guess DOT/Maintenance..
But the two ID's I got from UC Simo today,,, one is UHP and one is a St George area radio.

I have logged 4584 hits from 11/05/2012 to today on this TG.

It's for Juab Uhp I'm sure cuz always cops are on it. Uhp officer #83 is on now. And Juab came across talking to Richfield about a 10-46 earlier. Posted also in the other topic TG 38720 possibly Richfield forum

I added it as "UHP Juab" but how does it differ in use from 49600 and 49632 (Richfield N & S)? Is it for Juab County but dispatched from Richfield?

Yes its further north than Sanpete... And runs the I-15 corridor Nephi Canyon, Nephi, Mona areas...
49600 runs Sanpete Indianola Mount pleasant Fairview and is linked with 155.310.. 49632 Runs Sevier county to I-70 Salina Canyon and is linked to 155.595 channel on that one.. Whatever channel is Uhp Juab on Vhf for that area is probably linked to the 38720 TG..if all that makes sense

I think the TG 38720 came up sometime ago, and I added it for my "mid state" Utah scanning system. I also scanned 151.22. My last run through there was several months back, but I was only picking up the conventional channel, the TG 38720 never chimed in. Did they recently activate it?

There's another possibility I hadn't considered. It was late at night, and it could very well be there were no troopers affiliated with the local site I was using (Scipio), but the conventional channel would still be live.

I'm sure this goes with all of Ucan but they seem to turn it off and on at will, ford ridge don't always talk sometimes its quiet, but when it does talk its busy.. but they seem to turn it off and on any time they want to, especially at night but not always....
