Before I put antenna up, does it make different vs the antenna on the scanner?
If you are asking if an outdoor antenna is better than the antenna on the scanner, usually the answer will be YES! Now if you had a 500 foot run of RG-58/U to a crappy outside antenna, the answer might be different. LOL! 😂

You have to ask yourself questions (and give more information).
1. Do you live out in the boondocks, or in the city?
2. Who/(what) are you trying to listen to? And, conventional or trunking? What band (vhf/800/?)

If you can already get what you want on your desktop, an external antenna is overkill.
But, if you live out in the sticks... then, yes, you will benefit.

What kinda coax and connectors will I need to hook to my sds 100?

Coax type depends on a couple of things, and no one can give you an accurate answer unless we know them:

1. What is your budget?
2. How long is the cable run?
3. What bands are you interested in listening to?
4. What is the cable path like? Easy, or lots of routing through walls?
