Becoming A Database Administrator

I am heavily involved in programming for federal/state/county agencies. I work full time for a Kenwood/EF Johnson/ Relm-BK radio dealer. I have lived in Eastern Washington & Eastern Oregon.

What is involved in becoming a database administrator for both Washington & Oregon?

I'm not sure that would be a good Idea. We have had DB admins that have found themselves in hot water over this site and duties as a DB admin with their employer in a radio related field.

I'm sure that if you asked your employer, they would certainly be against you divulging any information regarding the radios you're programming, and any information that is in the database may fall squarely on your shoulders if it comes time to place blame for problems down the road.

Like ME343 said PM Eric, you should keep in mind that your submission history is one of the key things here and you have not done so in well over two years, the states that you are talikng about have three very active Admins who clear things in less then a day.

That is the biggest thing, I have tried a few time to assist for my state but we already have two that are on top of submissions and don't need any assistance. Your best bet it to just keep submitting any new or updated information and if they need help down the road they can see you have much information that you are willing to share and will ask you.....

I second whoever said about your employer. I have a friend that a well standing employee at a communications dealer and installer, and he was fired due to a single comment (opinion) on the 800 mhz Public Safety system.

After reading the other posts here and in other threads, I realize that I don't want to be a database administrator or assistant DBA. However, I would like to contribute to the database for my local area. The focus of the contribution that I am referring to at this moment is updates and changes to existing data. I am familiar with the submission format on the submission page, however, the updates and changes that I would like to submit would be more clearly understood and easier for the DBA to implement if I could provide it in an Excel file. I am acutely aware of the consquences of taking in a file from an unknown (or un-vetted) source. I would be leary of that myself.

To my point, what is the process (if any) for contacting the DBA, and establishing a relationship trusted enough that I can submit information for updating the database information in file format instead of by written text description?

Yes, there are specific moderators for each forum as they are needed, as well as a team of global moderators and other moderators with access to various sections of the forums.
