Bedford County switched over to TACN approximately a month ago. With the light amounts of traffic they have it is easy for a scanner to miss conversations happening if scanning all the sites in the state. I have attached a list of the most common sites being used, and this list may go down as sites within the county start being used more. (These are the names of the sites as listed on Radio Reference.
  • Millsfield
  • Braden Mountain 700
  • Rippy Ridge
  • Hoovers GAp
  • Bedford 911
  • Hawthorne HIll
  • Cookeville
  • Leach RF

Welcome to the Radio Reference forums. You should be interested in scanning the sites in your area. What is your city or town to determine the best sites.

What are you trying to ask? The post isn’t me asking for what sites I should scan. I already know. The post was to give those wanting to listen to Bedford County a more condensed list to scan so they’re not having to scan through a hundred or so sites.

Of the 8 sites you listed, only 3 are in Bedford County. Leach RF is in Carroll County. Braden Mountain 700 is in Campbell County. Cookeville is in Putnam County. Millsfield is in Dyer County. All of those sites are far out of range. The only 3 sites in Bedford County are Bedford 911 (Shelbyville), Rippy Ridge, and Hawthorne Hill. The only other somewhat close site you listed is Hoovers Gap which is one of 5 sites in Rutherford County. It would help to know your city or town to determine the best sites to monitor.

Again, I’m not asking what sites to program. I already know. The above list is the sites that show up while scanning on my SDS100. The list is to give people who want to scan only this counties traffic a condensed list so they can pick up traffic quicker. Whether the traffic is coming from that farther away site or not isn’t my concern. The scanner works is all that matters.

There is no reason for stationary scanner to ever do this, it would be silly. I think @tvengr is trying to help you not miss even more transmissions. From the list you provided you're still scanning things you don't need to be.

Ok....

There are a limited number of frequencies available to use. Statewide systems reuse frequencies in sites out of range with each other. The scanner is unable to differentiate between sites using the same frequencies. The SDS100 is capable of using Site NAC. Unfortunately, the database doesn't list Site NAC's for the 3 sites in Bedford County or Leach RF in Carroll County. If you are scanning from the full database, the scanner does not know which sites it is actually receiving since the frequencies are the same. If we knew the NAC's for all of the sites and set the scanner to use Site NAC, the scanner would ignore the false sites. The solution is to create a favorites list with only the sites you want to scan.
