Are you local to Bernards? How active are the region 1 Police TIGs?It's actually one system, not two, which operates two simulcast cells (aka sites) in different bands.
Region 1 is active. The County simulcast TRS System as @GTR8000 points out has two sites, (3) 500 & (4) 700.Are you local to Bernards? How active are the region 1 Police TIGs?
It is a long journey. This is not a spectator hobby as some have noted in their Avatars. I believe all your questions will be answered if you search the entire NJ forum “Somerset County”. Maybe even Bernards.@r60 I am in Basking Ridge (Bernards) and now have the RTL-SDR on the Pi receiving some activity on TIG 703 on the (3) 500 site. I am not able to get it to on the (4) 700 at for any TIG. Since it is a simulcast system I shouldn't be missing anything using the (3) 500 site, correct?
Think of the sites as each simulcast on their own but not simulcast with each other. In other words, if you hear it on 500 then you'll hear it on 500 throughout the county (subject to reception quality); if you hear it on 700 then you'll hear it on 700 throughout the county. Some talkgroups are active on both sites in which case you'll hear everything for that talkgroup on both sites but that isn't always the case for every talkgroup. It will depend on whether a radio has tuned it in on the particular site or if it's set to simulcast (would be a minority of talkgroups at most).@r60Since it is a simulcast system I shouldn't be missing anything using the (3) 500 site, correct?
I checked the CC in use for you. It is the primary 774.40625 in the DB. If you are in Basking Ridge that should be line of site to Site 04 at Bernards PD. If you are on a side of a hill that blocks path maybe not.@r60 I am in Basking Ridge (Bernards) and now have the RTL-SDR on the Pi receiving some activity on TIG 703 on the (3) 500 site. I would suggest if you are able, taking you pi setup over to the site by the Police Department in Bernards. You will have 100 percent signal. Go from there.Thank you for the replies. @richee2000 that is good to know that part of the problem is the reception which will make tuning the pi op25 setup challenging.
The interesting thing was it was only the data channel that was low signal. And of course if you can't decode the data channel you can't decode the audio on the other frequencies.Could have had a bad power amplifier I suppose. I have seen that before. I do not believe the systems are monitored in Shaumburg anymore. Anything is possible.
I'm not sure if this is all because of propagation or because of antenna issues or Tower issues or weather...I noticed this yesterday as well. 700 signal used to be spotty down here in Raritan/Somerville area with alot of distorted audio. Now It's pretty good and I've been listening more to the 700 side. Now It's the 500 signal that's being weird and distorted. I assume eventually everything will be moved over to the 700 side. 500 is pretty quiet as of late.
