With something like that the utility borders more on novelty that any real use. The problem is that fewer and fewer AM radio stations are even broadcasting at all, and of those, even fewer still have a real live staff that during an actual all hell has broken loose type of event are on site or can get on site to begin broadcasting. Most are many states removed working over the internet remotely, so if/when that goes down you get diddly.

For something along those lines for AM/FM and/or WX radio reception and still have a little bit of hope of something meaningful being broadcast, I'd get a dynamo radio that can be recharged via hand crank, or in some cases solar along with all the other usual suspects for power. That way you're covered on more bands and still not wholly reliant on grid power.

Bob has had a scientific supply biz for a long time now, besides what he is known for(Area 51). He does sell some interesting things, very cool items

I'm somewhat surprised that the wikipedia entry doesn't mention Bob was a regular caller / guest on Art Bell Coast to Coast AM. Dating myself slightly to say I feel like Bell and Noory are much more in that wheelhouse than I feel like Rogan is.

I once built a crystal receiver from garbage around the house, used a pencil and charred razor blade instead of the crystal though. It only picked up the pulse of my water heater controller, still pretty cool though. The kits Lazar has on his site sure do look cool though. Not sure about those prices cool, but still look good.

I had no idea anyone made crystal headphones. He is pretty forthcoming about the cost etc. I made a crystal set when I was very young and used it to listen to WOR's Jean Shepard. It worked very well.

AM dying?

And I'm thinking a crystal radio would be more beneficial for the following bands:

160 metres

80 metres

60 metres

40 metres

30 metres

20 metres

Understand how that could be beneficial in a SHTF scenario? Especially if your wire is long enough and can pull in broadcasts around the world.

Though, if the world gets hit by another CME from the Sun (it will), it'll be caveman times all over again. Though, some probably have radios that will still work for reasons...

Because it's Wikipedia. Depending on what I add or edit at Wikipedia, it may be subject to Nazi editor review...

Joe Rogan is a very charismatic, interesting and seemingly well-rounded individual. I like listening to some of his podcast's and have learned a few things.

Even today, from time to time I'll watch Fear Factor on Pluto TV. If I'm not mistaken, was the second reality TV show in the U.S. after Survivor. And Fear Factor came on after Survivor, too! From that day forward circa year 2000 the TV landscape had changed - for the worst in my opinion. My precious History Channel went to hell for one. Now I see A&E has Story Television which is a broadcast TV channel or available via Frndly TV and I have been watching that. Brings me back...

If someone is fringe enough thinking they'll need a radio after "doomsday", be sure to keep it in the microwave when not in use. :alien:

When contemplating "Doomsday" what exactly is meant here.
Literally Judgement day?
or is the OP looking for something to listen to while preparing for doomsday, or are we talking about something for after an EMP, Social Collapse, Food Shortages, Major comm outages or disruptions. etc...

Thanks
Joel

In case of nuclear attack, nothing is going to work.
Modern day electronics don't hold up well in doomsday situations.

If anything, I would invest in a shortwave receiver. More likely to hear something there than your local police and fire on a trunking system

There are all kinds of ITEOTWAWKI scenarios, even a limited EMP attack that would only effect a region. But literally "Doomsday" is "Judgement" day, and no one escapes it. That's why I was wondering if a more limited scenario was being thought of.

This is a library of most of the EMP ideas.

Thanks

Not my picture or set, but have the same setup, this one is just a lot nicer than mine. Has functioned since 1938, and plan to use it for shortwave monitoring until it gets passed down or sold to the next person. I am probably the third owner from the paperwork that came with my set. Good setup for adverse conditions, or at least it was through world War II. (Although, I admit, Bob Lazars kits look good for what they are).
