• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Any current model trunktracking scanner will monitor this system. None will transmit on CB or any other band. Uniden models include the BC245xlt (not current), 246T, BC330 and 396.

If you list other agencies you want to monitor, it might help narrow the choices.

A RS Pro-97 would be alot cheaper and suit your needs just fine. The system in question ia an analogue system so you dont really need all the bells a whistles of the Pro-96!

I have had bad experience with Radio Shack equipment in the past, never tried there scanners though... so I was looking at the Uniden's. Are RS generally accepted as better scanners then Uniden?

Would a Uniden BC-246T work for my purposes?
Uniden website for it: http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=BC246T&filter=TrunkTracker
# Frequency Coverage*** - 25-54, 108-174, 216-225, 400-512, 806-956, 1240-1300 MHz (Excluding Cellular)

With that frequency coverage it looks like it gets the Universal network and CB radio. I've found a few websites selling it for just over $200. Any reasons why this scanner won't do the job?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate the help!

Uniden vs Radio Shack is a bit like Ford vs Chevy. There's pros and cons to each but either is capable.

The BC-246t will monitor the system you've listed in the OP.

246T is a great scanner. It will work just fine. It's a very nice scanner, but it will not TRANSMIT on CB. It will only monitor. There are no "scanners" on the market that will transmit on CB channels.

oh ok I understand now, I knew you coundn't transmit on a network your radio was not a member of per se, but I had the misconception that if the network was "unsecure" like a CB channel that the scanner would transmit as well. Just monitoring is cool though, thanks again for the help!
