You will be limited in quality/performance by going with UHF on one side. Good commercial SMA to N adapters used in the microwave industry can be rated to 10-12GHz with very low loss with some rated to 18GHZ. These will usually cost in the $35 to $50 range and will be machined from solid stainless steel. Once you go to a UHF connector your usually limited to about 500MHz and the connector will be cheaply plated with chrome or nickel or a token layer of gold and can cost $2.50 to whatever but overall very cheap. You get what you pay for.

So asking what is the best UHF to SMA adapter is a bit like asking what is the best cow pie? Herford? Red Angus? Holstein???

You sure you mean a "duplexer" as those separate transmitter and receiver antennas while using a single line into the duplexer from a 2 way radio.

I think so. The goal is to use 2 antennas to cover all the bands because other than the rubber dick antennas, there doesn't seem to be a good upgrade. I need to cover 44 MHz, 155 MHz and the 400 MHz range

I guess maybe, asking about the best antenna upgrade is a better question. so I guess that's VHF and UHF right? And yes, my plan was in fact derived from a HAM setup
