• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have not ever owned a scanner capable of trunking, and I'm just learning about trunking now. I'm wondering if anyone could suggest the best scanner for trunking, and I would like one that can receive digital coms also, and can be computer controlled, as I do most of my listening from work, ,via TeamSpeak. :p shhh...

Expense is not a big concern, as I believe in spending more for what you really want, rather than still spending a decent amount of money, but not getting everything you want.

I'm mostly interested in listening to public works, pse&g, and the like. I can listen to all the police and fire with what I alreaqdy have because in this area, they are not yet using a trunked system, or digital. But i assume they will eventually. I just do not have a good understanding of trunking yet, or digital, and I understand there are different systems, so I want to make sure this scanner can handle them. Is there one that can handle all the different systems, or has no brand yet come out with that yet?

Thanks in advance!

OK for getting Motorola Digital.... LTR, and EDACS... BC296D/BC796D

For just Motorola Digital, and EDACS.... PRO-96/PRO-2096

For really sweet monitoring of multiples,.. go with one of each.

:)

NOTES: No scanner can hear EDACS Provoice Digital, all you can hear is the analog talkgroups.

If computer control is a must, then that eliminates the PRO-96. The PRO-96 can be computer programmed with a cable and software, but it cannot be controled by a computer.

Depends on what kind of system you are trying to monitor...Here in El Paso(TX), we have a Motorola Type II Smartnet, but are getting ready to go digital...
I just purchased a BC296D. I love it. My friend has a Pro 96 and he loves it. It just depends on the type of system and your own preference.

REMEMBER: There is no scanner capable of monitoring EDACS ProVoice, AEGIS, OpenSky, or any other Digital Standard except for project 25.
