The connector on the front of the BCD996P2 is just a standard USB mini, so any USB to USB mini cable will do as long as it's a data cable and not power only. You don't need a special cable.

Many folks find it handy to use one with a right-angle connector such as this one:

The jack on the front of the BCT15X is NOT a USB connector; it's a six pin mini serial connector, so the cable has to have a RS-232 to USB converter in it. The link in the previous post is to one that should work, or you can get the Uniden one:

Another option for both scanners is to use the DB9 RS-232 connector on the back. This works great for programming and remote control but will not work for updating the firmware. (Note that it has been years since new firmware that added functionality to either scanner has been released, so that may not be much of a concern.)

Here's one that I use:

It's actually more expensive than the other options but I prefer to have the cable plugged into the back of the scanner.

I've used a bunch of "not Uniden" cables.. (read, what was within reach) Including old cell phone, and Garmin gps cables with no noticeable problems, except the one I found to be charge only.

Just make sure it's a NULL cable!

I have this cable from Amazon - had the shorted version for years and just purchased the 10' cable that I use on a BC 780XLT. It's $ 12.99

Works great with ScanPro and Scancat
